Check Bags All the Way via Shanghai with Delta

Delta customers connecting to or from Delta’s Detroit, Los Angeles and Seattle hubs can now check their bags all the way to their end destination, via Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

The new connecting procedure is available on all flights via Shanghai operated by partner, China Eastern and its subsidiary Shanghai Airlines, including Delta codeshare services. The benefit will also apply to customers flying on Delta's Atlanta-Shanghai service, which begins in July.

Offering a smoother transfer experience in Shanghai, customers can simply clear immigration and board their onward flight, without having to collect and re-check their bags.

How it works

Domestic China to international departures:

  • After deplaning, customers travel from the domestic arrivals hall to international departures.
  • Passengers clear international departures immigration and security then proceed to their gate.

If a passenger’s bag needs a secondary inspection, they will be asked to remain at the departure gate for further inspection.

U.S. arrivals to domestic China departures:

  • Customers are given a process card upon arrival.
  • After quarantine, customers then proceed to immigration.
  • Customers should wait in the 6M level holding area while their baggage is cleared.
  • After their baggage is cleared, then proceed to their departure gate via the 6M level.

If a passenger’s bag needs a secondary inspection, they will be asked to remain in the 6M level holding area for additional screening before proceeding to their connecting flight.
