Delta celebrates decade on the Costa del Sol — service to Malaga, Spain

Delta is marking ten successful years of service to the Spanish coastal city of Malaga. The U.S. airline operates a nonstop service from New York-JFK throughout the summer and has welcomed more than 300,000 customers onboard over that time.

Since the first flight landed on June 5, 2008, Delta has remained the only airline offering nonstop service between the Costa del Sol and New York. Delta also flies year-round to Madrid and Barcelona and will operate up to five daily flights between the U.S. and Spain this summer.

"We're proud to be the only airline offering nonstop service to Malaga," said Dwight James, Delta's Senior Vice Presidnet — Transatlantic. "Over the past 10 years, we have consistently offered up to 35 weekly summer flights to three airports in Spain — Malaga, Madrid and Barcelona — from our biggest U.S. hubs, New York-JFK and Atlanta to provide choice and convenient connections for our customers."

Highlights of Delta's decade in Malaga by the numbers:

  • 302,239 passengers since 2008
  • 2,041 flights in total
  • 12.02 million kilometers flown between New York and Malaga – the equivalent of flying around the world 300 times
  • 2,296 weekly seats in summer 2018
  • 83 percent average load factor​
