Operational Excellence: Delta named North America’s most on-time airline for 2022 by Cirium and OAG Aviation Worldwide

For the second year in a row, Delta earned Cirium’s Platinum Award for global operational excellence. The award recognizes Delta’s 83.63% on-time arrival rate in 2022 – the best performance among North American airlines – as well as other factors, including operational complexity and the airline’s ability to limit the impact of flight disruption to its passengers.

In addition to the Cirium honor, OAG Aviation Worldwide announced Delta was also No. 1 in its rankings. Delta also was the only U.S. carrier to crack the top 20 globally.

“Whether your travelers are flying with us for an important business trip or a well-deserved vacation, our teams strive to earn your trust and provide the best experience possible,” said Bob Somers, S.V.P. – Global Sales. “These awards are an honor for all of us here at Delta – they’re a direct reflection of the highest levels of service and the operational excellence that you expect from us.”

CIRIUM

Delta’s on-time performance of 83.63% in 2022 far exceeded North American industry benchmarks. Of the more than 5 million flights tracked by Cirium in 2022, 71.91% arrived on time. Cirium defines an on-time flight as one that arrives within 15 minutes of its scheduled gate arrival time.

Delta’s on-time arrival percentage was also 3.17% higher than its nearest North American competitor.

Additionally, several of Delta’s airline partners secured a top 10 spot in their respective regions including Aeromexico and WestJet while Delta’s newest partner – LATAM Airlines – was honored as both a top 5 global airline leader and as one of the best in Latin America as well.

OAG

Delta climbed even higher among the world's top 20 operators in terms of scheduled flights, ranking No. 6 among what OAG calls "mega airlines." OAG also noted Delta's low cancellation rate of just 0.01% of all flights, compared with the 0.69% industry average, in its report.

OUR COMMITMENT

Delta’s focus on reducing flight delays is a core part of the airline’s Operational Performance Commitment (OPC). Launched in 2015, Delta’s OPC is an industry-first promise to deliver operational excellence or compensate our corporate partners. Delta is the only U.S. global carrier to continuously honor its operational commitment.*

Delta’s Commitment means that if the airline’s flight delays and cancellations or mishandled bag rate rank lower than other U.S.-based global airlines, Delta will compensate your company.

* In 2020, other U.S. global carriers temporarily paused their performance commitments in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
