New, Modern Airport Opens in Dakar, Senegal

Blaise Diagne International airport (DSS) opened this week in Dakar, Senegal's capital city, taking over from the current hub, Léopold Sédar Senghor (DKR), which will cease operations. The new airport is expected to handle an initial 3 million passengers per year.

Employees and customers looking for Delta flights between New York-JFK and Dakar will notice a change of airport code as DKR is replaced by DSS.

Delta is the only U.S. airline to fly to the West African nation, having served Dakar since 2006, and operates two weekly services from New York-JFK. Along with partner Air France, Delta and all other airlines serving Dakar will transfer their operations to Blaise Diagne.

Blaise Diagne International Airport is situated around 50 km from Dakar and customers are advised to plan additional journey time when they commute to the new airport. Customers will enjoy an enhanced airport experience given the new modern terminal and retail outlets.

Ticket Reissue Required

Existing reservations to/from Dakar will be updated with the new airport code and travel agents will be notified via normal schedule change messaging.  To ensure that these reservations are check-in ready, travel agents will need to reissue these tickets as an even exchange.  The following documentation will need to be added to the PNR and the ticket:

  • Document the PNR with the following OSI message:  OSI DL REISSUE DUE TO DKR/DSS SKED CHG
  • Enter the following documentation in the endorsement box denoting the affected flight number and the date of the flight, for example:  SKD CHG DL1234 15DEC17
