Delta Continues International Growth with New Boston-Rome Flight and Expanded Service to 10 Trans-Atlantic Destinations

Delta customers will have even more flight options between the U.S. and Europe beginning in 2020.

  • Boston's No. 1 global carrier boosts trans-Atlantic seats by more than 30% in 2020, including new service to London-Gatwick and Manchester, and second daily Paris service.

  • Double-digit growth in international flying out of JFK planned for 2020 including daytime London-Heathrow service.

  • Beginning in 2020, all of Delta's trans-Atlantic flights over six and a half hours will feature the carrier's premium Delta One experience, with reinvented International Main Cabin experience launching in Nov. 2019.

Delta customers will have even more flight options between the U.S. and Europe beginning in 2020, with new summer service between Boston and Rome and expanded flying from three of the airline's hubs to 10 popular trans-Atlantic destinations. The largest airline across the Atlantic,* Delta offers more flights connecting the U.S. and Europe than any other carrier and plans to add about 780,000 additional seats in 2020.

"Consumers are looking for more opportunities to visit Europe, so we've added more destinations and more flight times," said Joe Esposito, Senior Vice President – Network Planning. "In addition to offering the most comprehensive schedule of any U.S. carrier across the Atlantic, we've invested significantly in our aircraft, service and products for customers traveling between the U.S. and Europe."

Last month, Delta announced a 15 percent increase in seats between the U.S. and the U.K., including the addition of daytime service connecting JFK and London-Heathrow as well as new service between Boston and both Manchester and London-Gatwick. Beginning this winter, all of Delta's flights connecting Heathrow with Boston and New York will be operated using the carrier's newly retrofitted Boeing 767-400 aircraft, featuring all four branded seat products including a more private Delta One experience.

"These new services strengthen our position across the Atlantic with more than five percent growth in 2020," said Roberto Ioriatti, Vice President – Transatlantic. "The Europe, Middle East and Africa region is our largest international entity and these new services, together with our partners, strengthen that further."

As Boston's fastest-growing global carrier, Delta offers more flights across the Atlantic than any other airline

In 2020, Delta will launch four new trans-Atlantic flights from Boston, including new seasonal service to Rome, the carrier's second daily flight to Paris and new service to London-Gatwick and Manchester. The carrier will also extend seasonal service between Boston and Edinburgh and Lisbon, two popular destinations added in 2019.

Delta announced the new Boston-Rome service at a press event at Logan International, where the airline officially assumed operations at all gates in Logan Airport's Terminal A. Delta will be the terminal's sole operator for the first time since the facility opened in 2005.

New York-JFK schedule expansion includes twice-daily, year-round Tel Aviv service

In addition to new daytime service from New York to London-Heathrow, next year Delta's second-daily flight from JFK to Tel Aviv will become year-round, adding to Delta's already-leading position as New York's No. 1 carrier. Delta is also launching new service to Mumbai and Bogota in Dec. 2019, and is expanding the availability of seasonal service from JFK to Athens, Copenhagen and Berlin.

Delta has grown its presence in New York City by over 65 percent in the last 10 years and today operates more than 520 peak-day departures from its hubs at LaGuardia and JFK. The airline is JFK's No. 1 carrier, offering more than 240 peak daily departures to nearly 100 worldwide destinations.

More international flights for Salt Lake City and Amsterdam

Delta's seasonal service between its hub at Salt Lake City International Airport and London-Heathrow will become year-round beginning Dec.19, 2019. Additionally, the carrier is expanding the operating season between Tampa and Amsterdam in 2020.

Delta continues to invest in the trans-Atlantic customer experience

Beginning in 2020, all of Delta's trans-Atlantic flights over six and a half hours will feature the carrier's premium Delta One experience, which includes a dedicated in-cabin flight attendant; a 180-degree flat-bed seat; extra-wide inflight entertainment screens; and seasonally rotating, chef-designed Delta One menus with the option to pre-select first choice of entrée, paired with wines hand-selected by Master Sommelier Andrea Robinson.

In addition to Delta's award-winning operational reliability and service, all cabins of service on flights between Europe and the U.S. include complimentary meals, snacks and beverages. This November, Delta is launching a first-of-its-kind bistro-style international Main Cabin experience featuring welcome cocktails, hot-towel service and mix-and-match options for premium appetizers and larger entrees.

All seats on all flights also offer personal entertainment systems with free entertainment, free mobile messaging, high-capacity overhead bins, Wi-Fi, upgraded amenity kits and more. More international onboard enhancements are coming soon, like refreshed ear buds and headsets, to further demonstrate the airline's commitment to creating a best-in-class experience all customers can look forward to.

Delta's trans-Atlantic flights are operated in partnership with its joint venture partners Virgin Atlantic, Air France and KLM. The U.S. Department of Transportation recently granted the four airlines preliminary approval for a combined joint venture that will provide customers an extensive network of 300 daily flights.

*Based on number of flights operated by Delta between the United States and Europe, Africa, and the Middle East for the 2019 calendar year, when compared to other airlines.
