Multi-billion dollar transformation continues at Delta’s SLC hub

Earlier this year, Delta and Salt Lake City finalized a new lease agreement, paving the way for Delta’s continued growth and investment in one of its critical West Coast hubs. The agreement commits Delta to $2.8 billion in lease payments through 2044 and will create a more comfortable, seamless travel journey for customers while boosting the local and state economy through meaningful job creation.

“And we’re not finished yet, your travelers flying via Salt Lake City can expect continued upgrades and expansions at this key Delta hub,” said Joan Wang, Managing Director – Pacific Northwest Sales. “Exciting progress has been made in 2023 and more is planned. See what we have in store for your travelers in Salt Lake City.”

Concourse A expansion complete in Salt Lake City

Delta’s footprint at Salt Lake City International Airport continues to grow with the recent opening of 13 new gates on Concourse A, finishing off the gleaming 900,000-square-foot facility that first welcomed travelers in September 2020. All flights operating from Concourse A will now board and deplane via jet bridges, eliminating bus operations to remote hardstands.

“This expansion creates a seamless, elevated airport experience you’ve told us is important for your travelers,” said Brie Davis, District Sales Manager – Intermountain West Sales. “This state-of-the-art facility will empower and enable our 5,400 Delta employees here in Salt Lake City to continue to provide your travelers with the premium experience they’ve come to expect from Delta.”

In partnership with the Salt Lake City Department of Airports, the finished eastern portion of Concourse A features 22 gates – nine of which opened earlier this summer – bringing the airlines’ gate total to 50 at SLC. This expansion also includes a new Delta Need Help Center for customers looking for travel assistance, as well as 19 new restaurants and shops for travelers to enjoy.

Delta is SLC's largest global carrier, offering more flights out of Utah than any other carrier combined, with more than 230 average daily departures to nearly 90 destinations across the globe, including nonstop service to trans-Atlantic destinations like Amsterdam, London, and Paris.

New Pilot Training Facility in Salt Lake City

Delta broke ground this summer on a new pilot training facility in its key Mountain West hub, Salt Lake City. The SLC training facility will complement Delta’s Atlanta training facility, which has 34 full flight simulators, plus 13 Flight Training Devices (FTDs) and 20 Procedure Trainers (PTs).

Located next to Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), this 47,000-square-foot facility marks the next chapter of Delta’s investment in its 5,400 employees and customers in Utah.

This is Delta’s first significant training facility investment outside of its Atlanta headquarters, which opened its first pilot training facility in 1968. Delta's SLC Pilot Training Facility signifies its ongoing investment in a vital network hub, supporting operational growth and expansion.

The facility is scheduled to open in 2025. Upon completion, the new facility will have capacity for 10 simulators, beginning with four simulators at its opening. The new facility boosts Delta’s training capacity, bringing it closer to pilots in western hubs, enabling faster and more efficient integration into the workforce without compromising its commitment to safety.

The Delta Center returns to Utah under new agreement with Utah Jazz

The NBA’s Utah Jazz regular season began last month marking the official return of the Delta Center to Salt Lake City since the naming rights partnership between the Jazz and Delta Air Lines was made official in July.

In early 2023, Delta announced it would reunite with the Utah Jazz as a naming rights partner and Official Airline of the Utah Jazz, adding to its ongoing role as an Official Community Partner of the team and underscoring its continued investments in Salt Lake City. This agreement is a homecoming for Delta, harkening back to the arena’s original opening in 1991 when the airline held the naming rights as part of its first sponsorship with the NBA franchise.

As the Jazz head into their 50th anniversary season in the NBA, Delta will continue to support the team through a variety of joint activations, including programming for Salt Lake City and Utah residents, opportunities for fan engagement and by carrying the team as the Official Airline of the Utah Jazz.

Whether on the court, in the community or in the skies, Delta is committed to Keep Climbing alongside the Utah Jazz and our Salt Lake City customers and employees.
